M1A1 75mm Pack Howitzer

The M1A1 75 mm Pack Howitzer was first used in combat during World Ware II against the Japanese in the Philippines in 1941-42 and proved to be an effective weapon. It continued to be used throughout the Pacific Theater, China-Burma-India Theater and in Italy.

Early variations of the M1A1 could be broken down into pack loads to be carried by mules. When the crew got to its destination, they would reassemble the gun and be ready for action. This gun could also be broken down and placed on its carriage and towed. The gun was useful in mountainous and rough terrain as well as with paratrooper units. The M1A1 was later modified with a new pneumatic, rubber-tired carriage and a recoil system so either a horse or a vehicle could tow it.
