A Story Too Big for One Museum

They have fought in France, in North Africa and Sicily, in Europe, in Vietnam, in Kuwait, and in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have served in Kansas, throughout Germany and in the Balkans. Tens of thousands of men and women have served within it in hundreds of units. So the storied history of the 1st Infantry Division is too large for any one museum. Because of that, we shall periodically add “virtual exhibits” to our Web site.

First up, in remembrance of the 90th anniversary of World War I, we present “In Their Words”, the story of the creation of the First Division and its fight in France. Check back throughout 2008 to see updates to the exhibit as more of the history of the Big Red One in the “War to End All Wars” is added.

And check back from time to time to see other stories of the 1st Division—some well-known, some told here for the first time.
