Most documents in Shadley’s collection are a compilation of personal writings he wrote during and after Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. However, it also has writings that occurred before the war and there are many sources that discuss Desert Storm that were not written by Shadley. The last portion of his collection consists of magazines and newspaper that were printed during the gulf war time period.

The most important document in the collection is a field manual that Shadley wrote while he was attending the US Army War College. Sustaining the Airland Battle: Mature Theater Logistics Examined is a guideline of how to run a logistics operation. This document is essential because it shows how successful Shadley was at running a logistics operation, but also because it provides the reader with direct quotes from Shadley and insights into some of his personal opinions.
