Cold War

April 2, 1947: The 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, completes its guard duties for the International Tribunal in Nuremberg and moves to Grafenwohr to establish a training center.

May 5, 1947: The 1st Infantry Division commander formally opens the Grafenwohr Training Area, the main training center for American forces in western Germany.

July 1947: The 26th Infantry Regiment is filled to authorized strength and made the core of the US European Command (EUCOM) reaction force.
