Interwar

May 1940: The Division is redesignated the 1st Infantry Division and participates in the Louisiana Maneuvers.

December 1940: The 3rd battalions of the 16th and 18th infantry regiments, 1st Infantry Division take part in amphibious landing training on Chesapeake Bay out of Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. The rest of the Division moved to its new base at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.
