January-March, 1968: The 1st Infantry Division fought in the battles of An My and Ben Cat during the enemy Tet offensive.

April 7, 1968: Operation Toan Thang I.

September 13, 1968: The divisional commander, MG Keith L. Ware, is killed in action when his command helicopter is shot down by hostile fire.
