In Their Words
Ltc. P. L. Stackpole
“At 6:30 word was received by Drumm from Boyd by telephone that armistice was signed at 5, effective at 11, and orders in pursuance immediately transmitted to Corps. An operation by 5th Corps and 3rd Corps was in progress to east of Meuse and continued in full until 11, when firing stopped. All lines ordered staked out as of that hour. An operation by the 2nd Colonials was also halted by the armistice. Any crossing of lines forbidden, any communication with enemy prohibited, Sedan out of bounds and in hands of Germans, entrance by allies having been gained simply on western edge; river bank to Stenay marks line south, then swings out south-east. No announcement today as to who will comprise army of occupation (American) or what army will go. Band plays at noon; lights on at night; otherwise N.T.R.”
