Guidon of the 1st Engineers Regiment, Co. D
This battle-damaged swallow-tail guidon was flown by Co. D of the 1st Engineers Regiment during the battle of Cantigny. During the battle, Company D supervised the defense of three key strong points; the first nearly 200 meters east of the Cantigny, the second northeast of the village in the nearby woods, and the final point located at the cemetery to the north of Cantigny. In addition to leading the defense of these key points, Company D also supervised all surveillance in the immediate area.
